Extracting Value from Data: the McKinsey Challenge, (aka the McKinsey Hackathon), was a big event in the Independent Studies Program (ISP) and a great opportunity for Skoltech students to put themselves on the map in working to find a solution to a major real-world business problem. According to a recent analysis by McKinsey & Company, the potential for hackathons to create disruptive innovation within companies is being under rated by management. Hackathons have been shown on a number of occasions to create opportunities for large businesses to accelerate organisational change and fostering a quick-march, customer-centric, can-do culture. The McKinsey hackathon gave me an opportunity to compete for a new job, which was a nice bonus.
